Svetlovsky urban area is in the western part of the Kaliningrad region, on the southern end of Sambian peninsula adjacent to Kaliningrad bay shore. The area borders Kaliningrad navigation canal and Kaliningrad bay (Primorskaya creek).

Total population is 28.3 thousand people, including: urban population – 21.9 thousand people, rural population – 6.4 thousand people.

The area of Svetlovsky urban area makes up 8023 hectares (Svetly – 2635 hectares) including: forestry – 3166 hectares, agricultural land –2504 hectares, water area – 171 hectares.

The area has a developed transport infrastructure and an extensive network of regional and local level motor roads. The area territory is crossed by a railroad branch Kaliningrad-Baltysk. The airport is 38 km away from Svetly.

Active investment policy allowed Svetlovsky urban area to become one of the main industrial centres of the Kaliningrad region, with highly developed industry and transport complex infrastructure.
