The total area of Svetlogorsk urban area (SUA) is 3256 hectares, including around 7 hectares of inland water bodies.
The area lies in north-western part of Sambian peninsula, and its territory stretches for almost 15 km along the Baltic Sea coastline, from Svetolgorsk in the east to Donskoe settlement in the west.
Svetlogorsk (former Rauschen) is the main administrative, business and cultural centre of the area, and is located on the Baltic Sea cost 38 km to the northwest of Kaliningrad.
Besides Svetlogorsk (which includes Otradnoe, Maisky and Zarechny settlements) the area also includes 5 other settlements (Primorie, Lesnoe, Donskoe, Filino and Zori).
Svetlogorsk is one of the most popular tourist centres of the region and is operating as a resort town.
Resolution # 633 of August 26, 2000 defined its status of Federal resort. Svetlogorsk has a developed infrastructure of tourism services, well developed network of health-centres and recreation facilities, trade and catering enterprises.
Population of Svetlogorsk makes up 15200 people.
